PEKAN: The Government will review its fuel subsidy as the global crude oil prices had pushed subsidy costs beyond its budget for development programmes.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday the Government was looking for appropriate measures to ensure the increase of fuel prices will not burden the lower and middle-income groups as well as not cause the price of other goods to increase.
He added that the Cabinet Committee on Inflation would meet on Tuesday to find ways on what would be the best measures to solve the problem.
Najib said it was hoped the outcome from the meeting would be the new model for government subsidies.
In principle, it will be appropriately applied to the lower-income group while the higher-income group or those who used more fuel would have to pay more, he said.
“Currently there is no indication that fuel prices will go down and once the price is down, the Government will review again,” he said after witnessing the ceremony of the “berkhatan”, “berkhatam al-Quran” and “bertindik” for students in SK Sri Maulana, Kampong Pulau Jawa.
He said the implementation of the new subsidy scheme would be conducted in stages where the financial capacity of the people would be taken into account.

Dr Chico's comments:
Petrol price for public is increasing again as expected by Pakatan Rakyat?
We are a net oil exporter at the moment, and shouldn't the government be happy with the price increase?
With increasing the petrol price, would that mean the government is keeping all the revenue's by themselves and make the rakyat pay for everything else?
Is this why the government doesnt want to publish the results of Petronas?
Above are all the questions rakyat is asking.... The government should take a step to address the above questions and stop assuming the rakyat is stupid. Where have all the petrol revenue's gone? Why isn't the government helping the poor by having a good transport infrastucture as in Singapore? With good transport, the government would be giving alternative (choice) to rakyat to use public transport rather then cars. At the moment, public transport is just out of the question....
So ask yourselves, what is the current government doing for its people? Are they keeping the money as reserves in case the Pakatan Rakyat takes over?

Well we are now going down to recession soon la... With petrol in Malaysia touching RM 2.70, lots of small time business will close shop la. Not only that, Govt also planning to revise the Electric next month.
Come on.... Why are they picking on the poor. To the rich it really does not effect them much. The way we are going, I wont be surprise the middle class will become poor soon.
Lets just vote for no confidence la. The cabinet is not feeling the effect as most of their expenditure is taken care off by the government. Stop reimbursing claims for ministers and let them feel if they are effected or not.
With a 10 to 20 cents change, it effects alot to the poor....now you are talking about 78 cents? Wow, be prepared for recession.
